Any suggestions for moving the battery out of the stern compartment? Other locations??

on my 25

Steve, on my 25 (1974) the battery was located in the cabin under the port berth. I'm in the process of moving it to the space below the steps leading into the cabin. I think this would be a better location but I'm wondering if it's a good idea to have the battery in the cabin at all. But this seems to be the logical place to put it being that it is a flat surface and easily accessible. Good luck Chris

2 batteries on my 74 25 Hunter

Will fit exactly where Chris suggested under steps. I am in process of installing a roller track on 3/4 inch marine ply so that they will slide out for easy access and maintainence. I think it is a great spot as it keeps the weight centered and it is easy to install tie downs to secure.

Same modification for H23

I am in the middle of a similar modification for my 88 H23. When I'm done, there will be two batteries secured under the companionway step. The weight will be down low and centered in the hull, where it can do the most good. One flaw of the stock H23 is too much weight up high on the port side (battery, 5 gal water bottle and outboard)...unless of course they had anticipating my lardass sitting on the starboard side and had built in some counterweight! Battery Location on my H25

Steve, I see we are both located in MI but on opposite sides of the state. I have two batteries for my 1979 H25 (part of lessons learned). Both are located on the floor, in the most forward and inboard corner, in the starboard lazaret. They are lined up in a row (fore-to-aft) with their length running parallel to centerline of the boat. Make sense .... hope so. I tried balancing them with the 2nd battery located in the farthest aft compartment of the quarter berth but this was just to hard to get to. Under the steps sounded good until there was a lot of discussion this past winter on battery fumes in the cabin. As a result, I am satisfied as to where they are located. Biggest thing is to keep the load balanced.
