I have been doing the same with removing it from the boat and doing a deep cycle charge at home. I purchased the solar charger and charge regulator to experiment this season as I'm just working too much and not sailing enough. This is just one of the things that I can live without (removing the battery to charge it). So far so good. Battery has been maintaining 12.6 volts average.
I installed two pairs of outlets. The pair on the right is for solar inputs. The pair on the left is for consumption. The consumers wired off the "LOAD" output from the charge regulator. in theory, the regulator will not allow consumers from this outlet pair to drain the battery below 11.something volts. Bought a voltage indicator off eBay that plugs in and is super small for 5.00 from Shanghai.
