Is it safe to put a battery (on a three stage charger system) in the same locker as the refrig compressor unit? Any advice on this?

lockers

Mike; Don't know what ABYC or the Coast Guard would say about it, but I wouldn't do it. Not a good idea to have batteries, which give off explosive gases, to be in the same space as any type of working machinery. Plus, the battery gases could corrode things in the locker, too.

Breathing room

I'm superstitious this way, but I'd like to give my batt's as much breathing room as possible. Also allows for easy access. I keep them in a "very airy" spot in the starboard cockpit locker on our boat. Geof

What boat?

You didn't happen to mention what boat you are referring to. What boat is it?

Under certain circumstances you can but I wouldn't

Gell and AGM batteries do not require a battery box because there venting is so minimal that they can be used in an upside down configuration. The wet cells vent heavily of hydrogen as well as a few other gases. If you have wet cells they needs to be in a vented battery box AWAY from any NON IGNITION PROTECTED device. This would include refrigeration or some bome battery chargers. My opinion is not to mount any battery on top of a battery charger. Thats just to close for comfort.
