Battery float charge question

Bought two new 4 D Duracell batteries. New 20 amp 3 stage Zantrax charger. Yard installed
including remote. Remote part number correct for this charger. Am getting 14.3 and
13.6 volts. Zantrax (spelling) said 13.6 correct float voltage. I always thought 12.6 good
"ready" float voltage. Batteries wired charger direct to batteries then to 1-2-both -off switch.
Any thoughts? Thanks.

That’s the correct float charge rate (13.4. - 13.6v) for lead acid batteries. Sounds like you may be confusing that with a resting fully charged battery.

Also, if the charger has a temperature probe it will adjust to charge using even higher voltages at lower temps. That's the way it should be.

I have the xantrex Freedom HF inverter/charger on four 6v golf cart batteries, wired in series/parallel for a 12v bank. Right now it is resting at 13.5v. I like that it charges in the proper stages and provides 120v AC current when needed. The only problem is that it is mounted under my house, with the GC batteries. It provides backup power for our fridge and a few other things. I have had to use it twice in the last week due to winter storms, falling trees, etc. I'd really like to get the same setup on my boat someday!
