In my 1989 272 my battery becomes dry & low on power or complettly dead if I leave it plugged into the shore power to long. Does my 272 battery charger have a trickle charger which is not working properly? Has anyone else had this problem?

Charger or Battery?

Hi Doug, Most likely your charger - check the voltage. At full charge should be be around 13.5. 15 V or more will excessively heat the battery. Also possible the battery has a bad cell - results will be the same. A charged battery without charger connected and main power switch OFF will be 12.8 to 13.2 volts - hold that level for days. If it has a bad cell the voltage will drop to 11 volts.

DRY BATTERY

I HAVE A 26O'DAY THAT I HAVE TO STORE IN THE SLIP FOR ABOUT 5-6 MONTHS. I WENT THRU 3-4 BATTERIES BECAUSE THEY DRIED OUT WHEN I COULD NOT BE THERE TO LOOK OUT FOR THEM. SOLVED MY PROBLEM BY BUYING A GEL CELL AND A SOLAR TRICKLE CHARGER. I'VE HAD THE SAME BATTERY NOW FOR ALMOST 5 YEARS, NO PROBLEMS AND MUCH CHEAPER IN THE LONG RUN. I DON'T NEED THE SHORE CHARGER EITHER.
