John, I have a 1983 Honda 10hp outboard which
is actually the early version of the 9.9 as you have. I went to the local Honda outboard dealer to purchase the charging curcuit plug-in wire harness. This is the rubber boot assembly that fits the 2 spade connectors on the motor. I went with all the serial numbers, the model numbers and any other numbers I could find as the motor was so old. The lady simply reached under the counter and pulled out a small plastic bag with the part inside and releaved me of a $10 bill.I thought this strange as I knew I had an antique motor, something too old for garage sales and I was certian there would be a very long search in the old parts books. (remember this motor is older than computers)"No, this is the right part" she replied, "as they have only made one fitting for ALL the smaller motors".Hope this helps.RayPS. While your there get the $20 shop manual. With it anyone can repair this motor. All of it.
