Pro 1800 Xantrex Inverter

Just replaced the small 600 watt portable inverter with a 1800 watt built in, it has an auto transfer switch and now all the 110 receptacles on board can be powered if need be while hanging on the hook sooooo the input cable needed to be able to carry a full load not that I'll ever put it to the max just doing what I do best(master electrician) and doing it right.

Wire gauges

Good observation Stu. "2/0" is "double O" or 00 gauge, with a circular mil measurement of 133,000. Number 2 gauge is 66,400 circular mils. I have 2/0 for my winldlass because it was there! Good idea, though, since it is probably a 60' round trip at 100+ Amps. Actually, according to the West Marine chart, for a 10% drop circuit #2 would be adequate, so maybe the installer misinterprated the wire specifications. To get down to below 3% drop you would probably be into the 2/0. The larger size won't hurt. For a stock automotive style alternator with an internal regulator, and a 16' or so round trip, #6 is fine; in fact, #6 will get you out to 40' even when derating the ampacity for the higher temperature of the engine compartment (15%).
