When are battery boxes required vs. installing a tray and hold-down straps.

I'm looking to install golf-cart batteries for house bank and not sure I'll have enough clearance for battery and battery box.

USCG regs are not applicable in Canada obviously so you would do well to check Canadian CG for a definitive answer. I suspect, as here, the regs require only that the top (posts) be protected from shorts accidentally with the stray conductive metal screwdriver.

The USCG doesn't consider leaks
