Battery box for 6 V Golf Cart batteries

Recently purchased a Pearson 33, with a house bank of 4 6V golf cart batteries wired in parallel and series for one large bank. The battery compartment was designed for 2 Group 27 or 31's, so the 4 6V golf cart batteries fit, but barely. Surveyor recommends putting all batteries in CG approved battery box. Problem is that the battery compartment is about 12" high and all battery boxes I can locate for golf cart batteries are higher than that. There is a top on the wooden battery box and they are secure, but would like to put them in a battery box. Those of you that have swapped house batteries for 6V golf batteries, how have you addressed finding an off-the-shelf battery box that fits or other solution to safely secure the golf cart batteries ?

I'm sure someone will come up with a C.G. word-for-word edict, but seems to me as long as the box does not leak and prevents the batteries from falling out, it's good. My 2 cents.

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
The surveyors will always find random things like that. I wouldn't worry about it that much. As long as it is safe and it works the way it was intended to work it should be fine. It is your boat. You may or may not get dinged when you sell the boat for it but, who cares. They will find other things like that too.

Truth is that a lot of boats out there aren't ABYC compliant on a lot of things.

I second what Ron said.

Take the wood box out, drop it at Rhino Liner, spray it with Rhino Liner, done.... The surveyor is looking for acid containment, terminal protection and that the batteries are held in place. Bare wood does not meet the acid containment portion..

Thanks, everyone, for the advice. I think that if the box walls are treated as suggested, I'll be in good shape.

The battery box is built into the boat with a fiberglass floor, so not removable to take to Rhino Liner. But there are apparently special paints that are made for the interior of battery boxes that are acid resistant and will do the same thing.
