Not a solution to the "problem", but in my younger days I worked in a bottling plant. Came out one night and my car battery was dead. One of the guys that worked there said he could get it started with some club soda? Put some in the battery and the darn thing started right up, allowing me to go and get another battery.

About 25 years ago a friend and I took his 6 month old Sea Doo jet boat to an island and camped out on the island. The following morning the boat wouldn't start. It was November or December and no one else was around. It was cold and we had a campfire, I told my buddy to "pull the battery out while I warmed up by the fire and I would figure out what to do." When I heard myself say that I knew we needed to put the battery by the fire and warm it up. That worked and allowed us to start one of the two engines. The alternator was so small we never did get the other motor started but we eventually made it back to the dock on one motor.

Sorry for the thread drift.
