A bit much, maybe

I have about 340 lbs. in 4 golf carts in two banks, not including the group 27 starting battery in my Hunter 40.5. That's about 450 amps. So, 1000 lbs would be the equivalent of 12 and 1200 amps. Now, that's a lot. And, don't forget that with a 100 amp alternator, you would have to run the engine six hours to bring it back up from 50%. We do have a friend who had to run about the same size bank in a Morgan 45 to run an O2 generator for his ailing wife. He did have a generator, but didn't want to run it all the time or depend on it exclusively. What might be a better result is a small genset, either 12 or 120 volts. They are under 200 pounds, and you could run just one bank of house batteries and be weight-ahead by 700 pounds. Regardless, good luck whatever you decide. Rick D.

battery bank II

further info on battery bank: No gen set. Will be staying out no more than two days. want the option of runing air cond. (5000) 10 hrs or 12 hrs. Would not be running big 16000 air. But could sleep with the 5000.Shore power to recharge on Ky. Lake. 3000 heart inverter. My real question is whether 1000 pds. of concorde mgm batteries will be too much weight if I usually have 3 or 4 passengers. Not overly concerned about speed of sail. Structural integrity if I can find a place for them? Also running frige. micro. stereo, etc.Would 1000 pds hurt boat?

? 1000# = how many batteries

Also remember you really don't want the boat lesting. But the weight itself well not hurt the boat.
