Went to the boat today and found my starting battery dead. Want to replace both my starting battery (Unsure of the size) and the 4D house battery. Is West Marine (My only retail place to shop here on cape Cod) my best bet or does anyone know a better option. Thanks for your input! Bob Knott H380

They have most of the well known brands, and good prices. Link below.

What type of batteries!

Bob: What type of batteries are you using or do you plan on using? If you are using flooded, you may want to consider using 6 volts in place of your 4D and then just a single 12V group 27 for your starter. If you are going with Gels then West Marine sells some of the best.

Wet cells

Steve, I'm planning on replacing the wet celled batteries the boat shipped with and staying with wet cells. I have the boat for sale and want to put on good batteries, but I don't want to go through changing the configuration of the battery locker, changing cabling, charger, inverter, alternator when none of that needs to be done prior to sale. Thaks for your help. Bob Knott H380

batteries

Bob, If you want to go to 6 volts in place of the 4D, Trojan T-105's will fit right in the existing box. Try calling Tom Carter at A-1 Battery & Electric in Quincy MA at 617-773-8190. He may either ship, or deliver or recommend a local dealer. He'll also make the short cable you need to connect the two in series. You'll go from around 175 AH to 220 honest AH. I bought 4 last year for under $75 ea. Bryce S/V Spellbinder H410
