I´m thinking of placing my batteries somwhere higher in the boat, possibly the starboard
cockpit-locker, to prevent them from being flooded. Have anyone done this?

I recently added a 3rd starting battery underneath the cockpit sole.
Gets the weight more centrally located.

I'm thinking of placing one of the batteries in the starboard cockpit
loccker as there is not enoutgh room on the shelf in the bilge. My main
worry is that it ay be too close to the engine in case of any sparking as I
undersatnad that hydrogen build-up from the battery can be a hazard.Any
comments?

I have moved the battery out of the bilge due to the moisture that builds up on the battery terminals and causes corrosion. This has caused me numerous problems. I've moved it and added a second one into the galley space port side from the engine. That would be just left of the stove for those that have one installed. As far as explosive hydrogen is concerned if you have at least a minimum amount of air flow through wherever you place the batteries this should not be a concern. There should be a vent fan running out through the stern whenever the engine is running.

Olav,, i did what u are going to do and did it for the reason that at one
time when I was on a mooring, I arrived to find that a the pump for the sea
water leaked and was filling the boat...my fault ...forget to shut off the
thu-hull...never do that again.

Does this mean that it is not safe to place the batteries in the cockpit locker without some
sort of fan arrangement?
