This last weekend, everything on my 83 Hunter 30 went to $#!t that has to do with the batteries and starting of the boat. I don't think that the wiring is original, but it might be. What makes me believe that the wiring isn't original, is that the Battery switch is much bigger than the hole that the wires are in, and all of the ends of the wires are bent at a 90 degree angle from the terminals, and there are no fuses in any of the wires. Also, one of the wires for the breaker panel is wrapped around the terminal on the battery selector switch I can't picture the wiring from the factory being like that, but stranger things have come from boat manufacturers.
Anyways, I'm going to re-wire all of the wiring from the battery selector switch to the motor, and the breaker panel. I use the boat mostly as a day sailor with a few overnight trips a year the longest I go without shore power would be 3 days, and even then, I only use my shore power for lights, VHF, Stereo (minimal), bilge pump, fresh water pump (Minimal), and two .5 amp draw fans. I'm thinking about going from 4-6 volt golf cart batteries (two for starting and two for house) to three group 27 batteries. (one for starting, and two for house) I also have a xantrex true charge 20 battery charger that will charge two separate banks.
I don't want to get into any expensive battery monitors, I just want to rewire it properly. Can someone provide me with a wiring diagram with all of the proper fuses, and provide me with a list of parts that you would use on your boat. I drew a diagram of how it was wired, but would like to see how it should be done.
