As the lake level comes up here in GA, and the days get warmer, it is time to get the boat ready for this year's sailing.I had lost some battens last year, and placed an on line internet order with a large well known marine supplier that has stores across the US. I ordered two battens at 6 feet and one at four feet long. I opened the delivery today to find one at 14 feet, 9 inches and one at two feet, 9 inches for a total of over 17 feet. I called customer support, and the person who answered had an Indian accent. I explained the problem, and she promptly transferred me to a "higher level" customer support person. She could not understand why I was unhappy, having received more than I ordered. This next person spoke English with a decidedly American accent. I explained the problem, but felt I might not be making headway. Finally, to explain I said:"God gave you two legs, each about three feet long, or a total of 6 feet. Now suppose that God gave you two legs, one four feet long and one two feet long. You would still have 6 feet of legs, but you would probably not be a happy camper." She broke up laughing and promptly said she would send me a four foot batten.Lessons learned:Sometimes communicating is the most difficult thing we try to do.Sometimes getting more than you ask for is not a good thing. As we go through this world, humor is our ally.Fair Winds.
