need to replace orginal wooden battens which are simply gone or broken. Do I need to replace with exact ones only in fiberglass? In looking at Marine Catalogs I can't find same dimensions as old ones. Do I need same width 2" by whatever?

Batten size
The size of the batten you need is completely dependent on the size of the batten pockets on the sail. Finding the right width shouldn't be an issue. Sometimes the lengths of the pre-made battens are a little off. The battens have to be long enough to fit snugly or they could flog right out of the pocket. If the pre-made sizes aren't a good fit (and they are available in a huge selection of sizes), the big chandleries like West Marine sell them in exact custom lengths.
