Do your pockets have elastic in the closed end, and if so is it damaged or worn out?
Nope, no elastic. More like an envelope with a 5” opening at the top edge entrance of the pocket.
Since I don’t have any immediate pics I’ll take a shot at making a graphic on my lap top a bit later tonight.

Cindy: So what’s this fuss over the battens.
Wayne: Well we’ve had them fall out occasionally, ‘cause the pockets aren’t clipped shut.
Cindy: Show me a batten.
Wayne: OK

Cindy: Does that fit tight into the pocket.
Wayne: Sure lengthwise.
Cindy: How about width?
Wayne: No not really, it’s about 1/2 inch too narrow for the pocket.
Cindy: Didn’t I see on the West Marine receipt where you bought wider battens.
Wayne: Well....yeah! But they’re too wide for the pocket.

Cindy: Well, why don’t you rip ‘em down about 1/4 inch on the table saw and see if they snug up in the pocket. Do you think Peter (PO) installed the right width as replacements?
Wayne: Huh?
Cindy: Do it, don’t be an idiot! No need to modify the flapping end of the sail.

...and that’s when the fight broke out. Thank God we were both drinking.:beer::beer:

He lost more than just the batten. ;-)
Not really, there’s just not any recent Google updates to Maps or Earth that show our boat slipped. Most images show 2017 spring images when the Lake was flooded and the slips overflowed. Not many were able to get tied up until early June last year.
Jimmy, you need to come visit again. I owe you an epic adventure, and some single malt scotch from a local distillery. I still have my smarter than me wife!

I’ll do my best. I promise. Trust me, I *really* want to come go sailing.

I must have married her older aunt.
BTW the velcro idea was how we were fastened before we got a new sail, now there two grommets with a short line tying the end cover closed.
