I've got an old Catalina 30 Tall Rig. While at Emerald Bay this weekend I opened the lazarette to find the compartment half full of water. I looked and saw the vent and fuel vent hoses sealed and no way for water to drain from this space. Is this right? It looks like it was just water from washdowns that had accumulated but I had to bail it out with a bottle. My propane tank is in there and I don't like it sitting in water. Is there supposed to be a hole ?

Jim,

There is no drain in my '85TR and the area stays dry. I can't think of any way for rain or wash water to get in on my boat.

Is your propane tank vented overboard through the transom and water is getting in there some how maybe?

When I owned my 86, 30 Catalina, I remember a lot of owners had their rear compartment leak. Mine was always dry. If you check the 30 Association website's tech notes you should find fixes. Might also check the 34 Association.
