As I took my boat out for the first time this year, I had a few unwanted guests. Bats had somehow managed to nest (is that the right verb?) in my sail cover. How do you keep bats out?

Repel or kill?

Silver bullets. Stakes through their hearts. Or just get a boat cat. ;) Might try putting some coyote urine tablets in a cheesecloth bag inside the sail cover to see if that helps. (Try your local hardware store in the mole repellent section.) They create the worst mess of any animal. Good luck.

Try some Downey drier sheets

You may want to try some Downey Fabric softener drier sheets. They seem to keep a lot of critters out of the sail covers. It's cheap!

Fabric softner sheets...

didn't work for spiders on my boat. They were just nested in them the next weekend when I pulled the cover to go sailing! They seem to loose their effectiveness after three or four days. You may need to pull the mainsail off after sailing the next time you leave the boat to deny them a place to roost. They'll seek another neighborhood if they can't live in yours!
