I need to have the mast un stepped and want to know how the mast is stepped to the cabin top. The mast has not been down since I own the boat, I hoped someone may have a photo with the mast removed, so I can see in advance what I am up against. please E mail me a photo to: kuderaj@rcn.com Thanks in advance!

H34 Deck stepped mast removal

Just pulled my mast off for new rigging and compresion post repair. Mast sets on plate that bolts down to deck with four bolts. The mast is not actually mechanically fastened to the deck plate. It is held in position by raised channel that runs around the outer edge of the plate that just fits inside the mast. The conduit for that mast wiring comes up through the center of the deck plate. I would advise if you have not already to check out the compresion post for any water damage from the leaking conduit and water following wiring. I had to replace over 3 inches of soft wood on both top and bottom of my post. I cut into bulk head as well and replaced wooden support in bulkhead as well. From what I have read it just depend on how much damage has been done as to how far you need to go with the repair. I believe I am going to route the mast wiring external at base so it will be servicable when I restep the mast. Hope this has been helpful

Which Mast Base?

Early 1983 boats had a large black mast base with halyard sheaves built into it. Tha mast just lifts off the base and there are plugs inside the mast for wiring and antenna. No picture but I had mine down in June. Sorry, no pictures. Later boats had a different design and are more likely to have compression post problems. Barry
