In 2008 I removed about a dozen coats of bottom paint off my 1990 Hunter 30. After sanding and wiping down with Interlux Wax remover, I applied four coats of Interlux 2000e per instructions, and followed up with three coats of Blue Water SCX 45 Ablative--the first coat red, the second two blue, so I could see when the blue was wearing thin. This last two years.
Last July of 2010, I hauled out; the bottom looked great, but I scuffed an applied two more coats of Blue Water 45 SCX. Since it lasted so long the first time, I wasn't going to haul out this fall, but wait until spring.
Now all the layers of paint are chipping off the port waterline, clear down to the gel coat. Care must be taken when applying bottom paint over 2000e. If it fully cures, the bottom paint won't stick. But this is not the case--the 2000e is gray, and what is showing is white.
What to do? Haul and patch treat, and repaint? Take it all off and start over (please God no). Anybody seen this before?
