I am wondering if barnacles can grow in the ballast tank on my 1999 26X. If so, is there a product to treat the tank?

since there is no light in the ballast tank, it has always been my understanding that nothing will grow......food chain concept, no light, no algea, no algea, no barnicals......that has been my understanding...would also be curious to know if I am wrong..........

Not so, Randy

Algae needs light, but there are all kinds of critters, animal and vegetable, that don't...that thrive in damp or wet DARK places. Mold, mildew, and some fungi, just to name a few. Speaking of fungi that grow in the dark...a friend once had a sign on her office wall that I loved: "Everyone here must think I'm a mushroom, because they keep me in the dark and feed me bullshit."

I'm also thinking everytime you open

tank you would be getting a fresh flow of nutrients like high tide, light or no. I just wouldn't be surprised to find barnacles on my mast top if the humidity was high enough.
