This is an early heads up, I am hoping to plan another Invitational Race here on Barnegat Bay this summer 2005. last summer's event was a great success. Last summer I organized the Columbia Invitational Race here on the bay, as I also sail/race a Columbia Contender. SAYC hosted the day, we held two races, had lunch, played musical crew <G>, awards, and an after race party. Great Day! This year I'm trying to pull together a Hunter Invitational Race and day, simple handicap Portsmouth races, so keep watch for news about the plans. Plans would include two races (morning and afternoon), lunches, raftup party the night before in or off Kettle Creek ICW21, and the usual after race party. There are so many Hunters on Barnegat Bay and in nearby waters, it should work well, and make for a nice Hunter event. Any suggestions would be welcomed, but for now if you are interested, keep the thought in the back of your mind.....lets' make it happen. Thanks, Jim ( Cherub H-27 ARK)

I should have mentioned <G>

It would be great to have some replies from local (NJ) Hunter sailors interested in joining in for the event. Feedback will help me know how much interest there may be, and what direction to take. I will also be contacting the BBYRA club circuit to notify Hunter Owners who may not monitor HOW. As well, nearby in or out of state Hunter trailer sailors may enjoy the weekend as well. We have a ramp, parking, and a beautiful location. Last year we charged a minimal registration $30 per boat to cover lunches for the skipper and crew, use of the host clubhouse SAYC and bar, and to pay clean-up staff. $30 covered up to two crew members per boat, any additional crew just paid for lunch. Sponsor (me <G>) donated awards, which was msde from the store at www.columbiayachts.com I would do the same this year with msde from HOW. I should have included this information the original post..thanks!....be well, Jim

Bag that idea <G>

Guess I'll bag that idea, and move on.....good thing I asked before more planning. I didn't get a single reply on the Sailnet or SAILjazz Hunter lists either.....go figure LOL Jim out...............

Looks like the clorox bottle Hunter boyz don't have the same personality as the classic Columbia boyz........<G>

In all fairness, I just read your posts and I'm a days sail away from your area. Your post said "Any suggestions would be welcomed, but for now if you are interested, keep the thought in the back of your mind....". I figured to wait and see when this adventure was to be held. I can see that you were feeling very enthusiastic about it and I was trying to find out about the sailing area and the water depth in that area. I think that the lack of details is probably the cause for the lack of responce.

Hunter regatta plans

It's kind of hard even this late in the winter to plan on where we'll all be come summer. My advice would be the 'Field Of Dreams' philosophy-- if you plan it, they will come. Make sure you get publicity out in print media (Soundings and the APP) several weeks in advance. When people see it's already on the calendar, they will make plans.. or not. JC 2

I'm Here!

Greetings Jim: I'm usually only on this forum when I'm looking for help....like now when I'm thinking about bagging the topping lift and replacing it with a boom kicker. I sail out of Bayville...where in Barnegat Bay were you looking to have the event? I'm sure I'm up for it! All the best, Bill
