Has anyone tried "Barnacle Buster" to removed dried up Barnacles from their hull? How did it work?

You must be talking 'bout a belt sander w/ 80grit sandpaper ... affectionatly known as "Barnacle Buster". Works fine, till your arms give out. Don't know anything about some woosey paint/jel that's supposed to do the job easier ... but, if it works, I'm game.

Maybe it has worked for others, but there's no way I would use a belt sander, especially one loaded with 80-grit, to do the bottom of my boat. Belt sanders are designed to make things flat -- period. Put one of those bad boys up against the subtle curves of your boat's bottom, and it's goodnight Irene. If you really feel compelled to take a sander and coarse paper to the bottom -- whether as a barnacle buster or to prep before painting -- use a random orbit sander. There is a product called barancle buster made by a company that claims you can spray it on and after 10 minutes, the barnacles can be powerwashed or hosed off. It has a mild acid that defeats the glue from the foot of the barnacle. I have barnacles above my bottom paint in an area on a painted surface with a clear coat, and therefore, do not want to do a lot of scrapping and sanding.

I was, sorta... I have used a belt sander w/ 80grit on the underside of my lead/antimony wing keel to remove barnacles and smooth out roughness. Then finer grit, then paint.... I wouldn't use it on the fiberglass.. unless I was really pissed with the boat
