Hello, I am looking for information on Barient wenches. As I am told Lewmar bought them then stopped the line. I am looking for information on how to take them apart to service them ( clean/lube ). Does someone know if parts or manual is available? Alan

A number of years ago I bought a pair of oversized barients for my Day 30. I have looked everywhere for the receipt. Its among the missing. any way there was or is a company in new England that bought all the factory parts and winches. I seem to think it might have been marine exchange corp. I'll check on it and repost later. as to a manual you really don't need one. they are really a simple mech. even the two speed winches. just take carefull note of how the pawls and springs are installed when you take it apart. If the boat is in the water then be very,very, very careful when taking apart. I would take the entire winch off and take them ashore to service. DON'T WANT TO HAVE ANY OF THOSE LITTLE PARTS JUMP IN THE WATER. more later when i find out more. Capn Jim of Que Pasa?

info for all O'day owners with barients

the place i bought my barients in new England seem to be out of biz. however i found a source of parts for barients. One is fawcett marine in annapolis Md. for pawls springs etc. Arco in Australia bought tooling from lewmar for barients and barlows. there is a wealth of info to be found by using copernic and just typing in (barient) about 30 plus sites come up with info and some drawings on various barients. the site for most any part in australia is www.arco-winches.com Capn Jim of Que Pasa/

James, Thanks for the info! I'll check out the web page. Boat is on trailer. I am not having any trouble with them. I just was thinking about servicing them, sence I bought the boat last Aug do not know when they were last serviced or ever. Sounds like I had better take really good care of them!!! Thanks for the info. Alan

If Yours is typical, as mine, probably never

When I bought my 30 in 91 I don't think they had ever been cleaned and serviced. Its a good Idea to clean and relube at least every other year depending on the usage and whether you are in a salt atmosphere all the time. Makes the crew a lot happier when they work smoothly also. Capn j
