Due to work commitments I will only be able to use my boat for two months during summer. So I am considering bareboat chartering my boat, a Bayfield 25, for the other month or so(which would be August and September next year). Does anyone have any experience with private bareboat chartering. Any opinion, good or bad, would be appreciated. Also, by means of an informal survey, comments from anyone who would be interested in chartering a sailboat in the Notre Dame Bay/ Bay of Exploits area of the North East coast of Newfoundland, Canada would be appreciated. This is a beutiful, uncrowded, bay with many islands and sheltered waters. Thank you,

If you love your boat.......

.....don't charter it! We had our yacht in charter for 3 1/2 years and had our hearts in our mouths every time it came back into the marina. The damage people do is quite unbelievable - wrapping the dinghy painter and moving the motor back, chipping the gelcoat, dropping winch handles from great heights, gouges in wooden floors, rig damage, sail damage...we could go on and on. Also I don't know what's involved in the U.S. but in Australia there's quite a bit entailed in having your boat in survey for chartering and also it could have to have commercial registration. So check it all out pretty carefully first. And don't forget the insurance policy!!!! Good luck Gary

I agree

David I have to agree. I run a number of charters a year on my with me being the captain but it is very obvious that "guests" really don't care about the boat. I ahve to say that w have been very lucky regarding damage but always need to spend a lot of extra time cleaning after the charter leaves. I couldn't imagine what the boat would look like if we weren't there Charlie Gruetzner Angels' Grace Beneteau 361
