Barberhauler

Has anyone set up a barberhauler on a H33, that has the two jib block positions[on the cabintop and on the deck].
And if so, how do you do it.
I just got Don Guillette book on sail trim and it mentioned it.

If you've got 2 lead positions, you don't need a barberhauler! The whole point is to try and pull the jib closer to the cabin - you have a lead block up there already.

A barberhauler in this situation is used to decrease the sheeting angle of the genoa. If you have a sheeting angle of around 15 degrees you are already at an acceptable angle for cruising boats. If you have a non-overlapping headsail then you can choose an even smaller sheeting angle (11, 12 13 degrees) for better windward performance by sheeting inside the shrouds. Many skippers, however, fail to keep their headstay sufficiently tight and therefore destroy the sails entry which kills the pointing ability.

I guess I didn't make myself clear enough. I know that if I use the cabin[inside] blocks I will get a sheeting angle of about 11 degrees, whereas when I use the deck[outside] blocks I get about 15degrees. What I'm trying to do, is to do this without going out of the cockpit, or using four[4] sheets, two per side. I have enough cheek blocks with cams to handle four sheets, but the idea of three lazy sheets flailing around tends to leave me cold.

To answer your question, no you can't have a single sheet to operate on two separate tracks without leaving the cockpit to change over. That would require double sheets which you've said you don't want. You could run a twing (or tweacker) line forward of the shrouds but the sheet would be very difficult to adjust when it loaded up. If you want to do this you will have to have a double sheet setup or go on deck to change the sheet.

Why would you want to have the outboard sheeting on such a small headsail ? You would be FAR better off with an asymmetrical kite.
