It is a "stand-a-lone" stainless steel grill that you can set anywhere in the boat (or the shore).

It uses seven charcoal briquettes (SP) to create heat. It has a cover to speed cooking. While there is a website, I purchased mine from Camping World for $ 70.00.

I have never been a fan of rail mounted grills (I have lost two). This one sets anywhere I want to put it and can grill enough food for four people.

Re: barbaque grills

I have the round 15" Magma with the pivoting lids and the grill piece twist-locks in. It works well. I made a cover that also snaps over the stern rail to help prevent it falling off- though it never has even started to. The larger one would be the way to go, though... 17"?

Re: barbaque grills

Having had a couple round Magna grills I must say that they are terrible because they blow out in any amount of breeze. I now have a Kuuma rectangular and I find it to be much better. YMMV

i would disagree with this if you were referring to the magma kettle2 grill... but the older ones did have that problem.

the kettle2 has been redesigned and is a great grill. in the used boat parts stores, you can find the old magma grills for around 35-50 dollars, because everyone that has one is switching to the good model as soon as they can afford it... and the regulator has to be turned 90degrees to be able to come out of its socket..

I have the old round model and it works great. Just add small lava rock to the burner area and it inhibits cross airflow so well you can make coffee on it! I posted this response once before and not a person reacted to what I think is great info. Chief

I have a round Magma that's probably 15 + years old. I've replaced almost every part internally. I haven't had the blow out problem, or the keeping lit problem (As long as it is covered and the gas pressure is adequate). The rail mount is for me - besides you can only deep six it twice a year unless you take if off to race.

I am speaking of the older round Magna grills and not the Kettle2. I have seen the "claim" that the kettle2 doesn't blow out, but having suffered with the old model for years before finally getting fed up with it, I was not about to believe Magna's claims. They lost me as a customer because they never did anything to address the blow-out issue for at least 10 years.

If their Kettle 2 is really good, I can only say "It's about time."

I have a 20 yr old cylindrical Force 10 grill that works just as when new and looks as it will last another 20.

Some marinas post rules that prohibit cooking on board the boat in a slip. It is easier to conceal any cooking below deck than to hide a "smoking cooker" on the stern rail.

I have a personal grudge, vendetta, hatred, animosity for clamp-on grills. That feeling stems from watching the grill slide around the top rail and dump our lovingly prepared steaks into the waters of the Chesapeake Bay! :cussing:
I'm sorry, but even now these many years later, I have difficulty writing about the incident.

I once lost a $34-in 1983- marinated, butterfly cut, lamb roast to a refrigerator fire. I fully understand your grief.

Re: barbaque grills

I have a Force 10 charcoal unit. There is no propane on Raven. We also use the match light charcoal which is kept in a sealed container. One really nice thing about a charcoal grill is that we sometimes collect little pieces of drift wood and keep the fire going after we are done cooking. It is very pleasant to sit around a fire and enjoy the evening after cooking something yummy on the grill. There isn't much of anything to go wrong with the little force 10. If you do want to have a fire just make sure the dinghy is cleated off on the other side, Steve.

Did you get a MOB fix on the steaks? Just askin'. For the boats with a horse shoe bracket like my B323, I attached the grill to that section of rail, and the BBQ bracket rests on the horse shoe bracket. It won't "roll off" that way. And no, there is no horse shoe in the bracket. You should be able to mount a bracket like the guys are doing with the solar panels.

hello all

I am not rich enough to own a Magna BBQ cooker.... has anyone used a Coleman propane BBQ cooker.... just make a bracket to attach to the railing and the BBQ cooker together ?????

I have a couple of Coleman BBQ cookers in my garage, and was wondering if this is feasible in the long run, or just a waste of time ????

do they wear out faster than the Magna, or will they last as long ??? I can remove the legs off 1 of the BBQ cookers, and make a new set of legs that will attach to the railing...

sincerely
Jess

Re: barbaque grills

Check with your marina on BBQing at the slip. If they will not allow it then you are stuck moving ashore or doing it away from the slip. That would mean a unit that works on shore AND one that works while the wind blows at anchor.
Had a round SS propain (sic) one and like other posters it did NOT work at all in a breeze. The lid was a pain as you could not get much under it and forget anything in a pan with handle (coffee) as Poseidon will shortly have it.
We are much happier with an oven down below and using the marina hibachi ashore.

We found a used Party Size round Magma at a sailing consignment shop for $75 including the blue cover. It has been a great addition to the boat. I love cooking on it. Pork cutlets are on it in this pic.

Re: barbaque grills

Seems to me someone once mentioned being on a "BBQ tack", meaning the tack which the BBQ would not extenguish.
