Hi All: Does anyone have either pictures or description of how and where you mounted Bar-b-que and outboard motor on a recent Hunter 33. Not much room on the rail. New boat coming and looking for ideas. Thanks Wally

BBQ Info...

I don't have a picture handy, but I mounted my BBQ on the verticle stern rail next to the swim platform. It was a little tight... But, works well, and is not in the way when we use the swim platform.

Learned the hard way

If you want to leave it attached all the time, do NOT install it sticking out on either side. Mine was mounted that way until one day in strong wind trying to get away from a pumpout dock, it hung up on a metal sign. We're lucky it did not rip the rail off. So now I am checking the archives for "how to un-bend stainless steel...." :>) Actually, the grill should come off when sailing and be stowed in all but the mildest conditions. off the fishing rod holder

I installed a fishing rod holder. and used the fishing rod mount with an extension. that way I can stand on the platform an grill the fish of the day.

my answers

Hi Wally, Congrats on your new 33. I have one as well and have solved both of these issues. First the Outboard stern rail storage: I bought the Edson Stern Rail mount (see below) because I liked that it spanned both rails giving it high strength. Todays 4-stroke engines are heavy and I did not feel comfortable with a single rail mount for a 55-60 lbs motor. I mounted in the center of the starboard stern rail seat. In order to get it to fit I used a coping saw to notch out the stern rail seat where the lower portion of the mount connects to the lower rail. This season we are installing a removable engine hoist to ease the raising and lowering operations. Gas Grill: We use the Magma Catalina gas grill http://www.magmaproducts.com/Products/Marine_Products/Gas_Barbeque_2/Gourmet_Series_BBQ/Catalina/catalina.html). It gets mounted on the port stern rail off to the side. The rail mounts pivot to adapt to the rounded rails just fine. We *never* sail with it up so it is always cleaned and stored in the port locker. Get the little shelf attachment otherwise you will drip grease on your cushions. If you have any other questions let me know and I can call you. Andy
