Re earlier post, I'm looking at a Bayfield 25. Larger Bayfields have solid hulls but one reference I found says the 25 is balsa. I wonder if coring can even be checked in winter? It's 20° here now and water in hull/deck, if any, is frozen. Lots of owners aren't even aware (or sound like they're not) of these delamination issues. Brokers I've asked don't return my emails on the question of whether one can safely buy in winter. The survey books I've read (Casey and Vaitses')suggest great wariness on balsa cored hulls. I thought I could save some dough buying off season but it's starting to look like too big a gamble.
