Peggy each year I put a couple of boxes of baking soda (in small plastic bowls) in many of the low spots in my boat. It seems to help keep the smell nice etc. I normally just throw these small bowls of baking soda away. But I was wondering if I should save the baking soda and put into the holding tank. Would this help the holding tank? Deodorize it maybe? Help clean it out? What do you think?

Throw it away. Even the boxes of baking soda in a fridge need to be replaced every 3 months. So whatever any baking soda you've put around the boat in a year has long ago done everything it can ever do.

I usually save them and use them to raise the pH in the swimming pool. Waste not want not. I agree with Peggie though...you don't want to add a bunch of base to your holding tank. You might outgas something you won't like. I suppose you might add a small quantity of one of those septic tank treatments to add some bugs, but it is a holding tank not a septic tank and if you have smells you are likely better off just pumping it out more often.
