The Lousianna Purchase

I am planing a trip to the Bahamas and have some questions. Should I use my cell phone with a international plan (3.99 per month and .25 per minute) or is there a better alternative? What is the best way to access the internet? By phone or SSB. If by using SSB how would I do that? How much do slips cost and are feul and food very expensive? Thanks WC

Bahamas cost

I went through the Bahamas last winter on the way to Jamaica. Fuel was about the same as here, $3.00 to $3.50/gal. Internet was accessed in internet cafe's...only available in larger cities (Bimini, Nassau, Georgetown) or more modern marinas (Highbourne Cay). Cell phone charges were very high. Don't believe that 25 cents stuff. It ran about $4.00 per minute. The best value were the $20 phone cards from Batelco and were used at pay phones.

Skype Phone

Just returned from a month in the Exumas. Wi-Fi available at all marinas and in most towns. Its free in a number of placews. There is an internet phone called Skype-In or Skype out. Gives you worldwide covereage for 2-3 cents/minute. Look at skype.com. You will need earphones and mike for your computer.
