Im pre planning to sail my catalina 30 to the bahamas next year. Has any one any tips or maybe have made the trip from other ports? Ive only done coastal sailing in the gulf and havent had many problems with my 30 but some say the 30 is not sound enough to take far off shore. any comments?

Bahamas

Check out this web site. A Catalina 30 sailed from new England down the coast to the Bahamas and back to North Carolina. http://localsonly.wilmington.net/~jt/bahama.html

No Problem!!!

No reason at all why a C30 can't sail to the Bahamas. The only time a passage in any sailboat is uncomfortable is in the winter months when the strong northers pass thru!

Watch the weather

It should make it just fine but watch the weather & try to only go when it's nice. I know we all try to do that but if you have an older boat and the rigging's never been replaced, you want to be cautious. Have fun! LaDonna
