In a reply I made yesterday to the post "User Fee Decal", I made some negative comments about the Bahamas based on stories that have been circulating around the docks down here in southern Florida. I appologize for speaking before I had the facts from the horses mouth. As stated on the official Bahamas web site, the cost for a cruising permit is $150 up to 35 feet, and $300 36 feet and up. Now that does sound pricey at first glance, but let's dig a little deeper and find out what you get for $150. For a boat with a crew of 4, you get customs and immigration charges, a cruising permit, a fishing permit, and the $15 departure tax for all four crew. No matter how you get to the Bahamas you're going to pay the $15 departure tax. Lets break that down: 150/4=37.50, 37.50-15=22.50. So for $22.50 per person you're in one of the Worlds finest cruising grounds and can visit twice in a 90 day period. Next time I promise to do my homework before I make a negative comment. PM

Try leaving by air

Try leaving by air and tell them you've already paid the departure tax.
