I've had my H30 for about a year now without major problems, but last week something bad might have happened. I took her out of the slip, put it in forward and immediately observed significant vibration at about 1500 RPM. Increased the throttle a little, and vibrations increased significantly. Turned around and headed back to the slip, when suddenly everything was fine. No more vibrations, so I turned around went sailing. The vibrations did not reappear when I brought it back in at the end of the day.Now I'm worried that the prop will fall off next time I go out. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I'd prefer not to haul it out to get to the source of the problem if it isn't necessary. Thanks for any suggestions on where to start looking.

I'd think you just momentarily picked up a bit of something on the prop that unbalanced it and subsequently slung off. Do an inspection of the shaft coupling area to ensure all bolts are secure and intact etc. It'll probably be fine.

Agree with tom

However, forehandedness would dictate that you take a swim and confirm the status of the prop.

Any "grass" in Palatka? Did you use reverse when you "turned around". Weeds will definitely give you that symptom. Reverse usually throws it off.

For various reasons (poop and electricity) I will not go in the water in a marina, but I do pay for a diver to routinely clean the boats bottom. I agree that it was most likely something that got flung off when you reversed but if want reassurance I figure a diver who regularly works at that marine would do it for $50 or less - just inspect the strut, cutless bearing and propeller. I pay $95 per cleaning of my HC37 with a $10 labor cost added if he replaces zincs.

Brrr!

Sounds like a cold diesel engine to me. Water temperatures have been a little cooler than normal; engines will shudder a bit more until they warm up.
