Went to my 24 hr supposedly secure storage yard today to do some tinkering and measureing only to find that someone else needed my Mercury 8hp more than I did. I have filed a police report and called my insurance company but that still does not make me feel any better. Hopefully the insurance company wont drag their feet. Carl & Suzi h240 Relentless

I agree with Rick

Rick has the right idea . . . . hopefully that dirty gas you bought last year will now foul up the engine. You haven't changed the oil for a while either . . . . and you know that lower unit was leaking a little oil and be running dry by now . . . . My sympathy.

Anti-theft

A friend had his 9.9 Honda stolen in dry storage here. Right after that I replaced the 4 bolts that hold the motor mount in place on my H-26 with longer ones, and double-nutted the bolts on the inside with locking nuts. Then I went to a locksmith store and bought 2 "Security Screws". These screws have a strange head on them, they come with a tool that must be used to insert and remove the screws, and there is no way to get vise grips or anything else on the head. I put them thru the two holes on my engine and into the wood mount. Now they either have to get this exotic tool for the screws or bring a saw. You can't ever completely prevent theft, but you can make them go to easier pickings.

Outboard lock

OK, I know it's too late but have you seen those locks that slide over the outboard's finger screws? They are virtually impossible to remove without the key and cost about $25. Peter H23 "Raven"

Thanks guys

I appreciate the ideas, funny thing is I had just taken a pry bar to the lock to remove it because the padlock had frozen. It took about five minutes to get it off, but that might have been enough to make them think twice. The reason I removed the lock was to get the fifty hour service done on the nine month old outboard. So at least the crooks got a freashly broken in outboard that had just been serviced. It must be payback for something I did in a past life, who kows? Carl h240 Relentless
