Zip Walker

Well, here we are heading east and HUNDREDS of motor boats are heading west, all within feet of me. Since the motorboats are coming on both sides, I decide to edge toward the shore. When we are in about 5 feet of water I ask my son to raise the centerboard (a 600 lbs piece of iron) with the wench, the cable comes loose. We are sitting on the bottom (at least the centerboard is). We can no longer bob up and down, only sway from side to side, taking on water. I decided I have to swim under and secure a rope to the centerboard. While feeling for the hole, I have no mask, I slice my hand on barnacles. We have blood in the water and my son yells "SHARK!" Everyone panics, but I have to keep us from capsizing. My wife is on lookout with a dip net in-hand, like that would stop a shark. I finally got the centerboard up enough to get underway to the marina. Obviously we made it. My wife said, "NO MORE". We sold the boat. I now have a Macgregor 26s. The centerboard can be raised with two fingers. We are a sailing family again. Thank you Macgregor. That adventure is over, Thank God!

Turn a bad day into a good one...

Some days things just seem to start going bad.... We were using a bad ramp when our truck got stuck in the lake. But, we just unloaded the boat from the trailer again, and started the process over. things worked better the second time around. We all learn from our mistakes, unless we get luckey in the first place and head off problems before they occur. I'd like to have a bigger sail boat, but the wisdom we used in buying a 19' Oday has paid off. It's easy to trailer and get in and out of the water. The overnight cruise is a little tight. If all goes well, sailing is the best pastime in the world. If things don't go just right,....sailing is still the best show in town....
