"Backstay"

We've put our 1995 29.5 Hunter on the hard with the stick up and we were wondering if you need to rope up a backstay even with the fractional rig. It blows pretty hard up here in Minnesota and we didn't want to have the rig take too much stress. Anyone? Kirk
