backstay on Hunter 22

I am considering buying a 1982 Hunter 22 foot daysailer. It apparently has no backstay. I was told by the owner that this model does not require it because of the orientation of the shroads. Can anyone comment on this? Thanks

Mine had one...

I sold my 1984 Hunter 22 a couple of years ago, but it had a backstay.

I have an 84 Hunter22 and it has a backstay that mounts just to the port side of center on the stern.

My 83' has a back stay. and you definently need one.

My 83 H22 has a backstay also. You definitely should question that story!
