I want to put a backstay flag halyard on my C-27. Any suggestions for the block and how / where to mount it. Thanks.

Spreaders

Next time I go up, I'll be mounting a small block to the starboard spreader. I *believe* this is the correct one for "fun" burgees, but figure it doesn't matter too much on the Columbia! LaDonna

Try West Marine Catalog

West Marine has several clip-like gadgets that you can use to attach a flag to the backstay. You need to know the diameter of your stay.

Flag Halyard

I just ran a light line through the bale at the top of the mast with no pully. I attached two brass clips to each end of the line and now I can fly my 3x5 foot American flag at any height. This system has worked perfectly for 7 years. Make sure both lines are tight when you hoist the flag, otherwise it can get tangled up very easily. Sean

Johnson Marine

Johnson makes a backstay halyward kit with clamps, line, cleat, etc., but its pricey at $40. See link. I recommend attaching a little block with becket using a little stainless hose clamp.
