We are replacing some thru-hulls in preparation for an ocean race, and a discussion came up of whether to use Starboard material or the traditional resin-coated marine plywood. Seems to me I read a comment about Starboard being unsuitable for this, but I can't remember why. What is the word about Starboard for backing plates, or below waterline use in general? I know one opinion is that using non-compressible material does not put tension on the thru-hull to keep it put.
