Hi all,

This may be a dumb questions, but...

Where can I find backing plates for blocks I'm mounting on my deck? I'm running my halyards aft to cockpit on my O'Day 25 and would like to install the blocks with a backing plate under the deck. Any ideas?

I used tan 1/4" Garolite available on McMaster Carr. I also epoxied it to the underside of the deck to make it composite.

You can buy stainless steel or Aluminum at a metal fabrication shop where they also do welding. I bought some 1/4" plate Aluminum a few months ago for about $10 for a project that I was doing on my boat.
Don't use Aluminum backup plates for stainless steel hardware and visa versa. The two metals can cause corrosion if put together.

You can have them make up the plates and drill the holes or buy a cheap cutting tool at Harbor Freight and cut and drill them yourself.

Same here. It's sold under the name of "G10/FR4" sometimes. Great stuff and you can use thickened epoxy to bond it into place. No corrosion worries and it's strong as all heck.

McMasterCarr even sells to us small (tiny) retail accounts with very fast delivery. Great vendor!

You can also use a teak block and finish it bright so it looks good, or don't use a backing plate at all and use fender washers.
