Backing plates for stanchions

Well, for the bow pulpit, it is fiberglass discs. They're all bent out of shape and cracked. The stanchions are backed by aluminum which has completely corroded out. I don't know if the aluminum is original, but the fiberglass does appear to be original.

In your area you should be able to find some red mulberry or osage orange or locust. These are all very hard, durable woods that will serve well for backing plates. You can of course follow Mainesail's advise for making fiberglass backing plates for through hulls. The proceedure would be the same the application would be similar only the location be change to protect the innocent.
