Back yard hauling

The trailor for my 1971 Daysailor has a plywood deck that has rotted and needs replacing. I will need to roll the boat off the trailor while in the yard. I really don't want to build anything very elaborate for this project. Does anyone have some tried and true ( and safe) ideas on this project?

Launch Her

I've always found it easiest to launch the boat and then dock, moor or anchor it while working on the trailer, even if it involves driving between yard and water an hour or so. Replacing the plywood on your trailer should be relatively quick. You might want to bring everything with you to the launch and do it right there, or pull the empty trailer back to your yard where you have all the right tools. Dick

I once had to pull my DSII back on her trailer after she fell off the saw horses I had built while I was working on the trailer. Not so much fun!Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Launch it in your yard.

I used to work on the trailer for a 700 pound runabout by tipping the trailer and boat up until the boat hit the grass, then pulling the trailer forward out from under the boat. I would then set the center roller on the trailer against the bow and winch the trailer back under it. If you don't have rollers, try raising the boat (sawhorse under the transom and lift the tongue) and silicone spray your bunkers, this worked well with a 500 pound jet boat. Good luck, it's not really as scary as it sounds.
