Well last month I watched the eclipse and today I watched Venus transit the sun. Guess that's all my sextant is good for now. And I have to wait until 2117 to watch Venus again.

It is a historical fact that any time there is an atronomical event, It will be overcast and raining at any location that I happen to be. I never get to see any of them. :cry:
That's true, since we're all doomed anyway by December 2012 according to the Mayans.

Disappointment encountered: parted clouds, old eyes, right filter, didn't miss it just couldn't see it. Got the kid next door to verify it though, so somewhat successful. Did however catch the full annular solar eclipse in May and the total obscuration of both the moon and the sun more than 6:12 hours later.

Boy, I sure hope the Mayan are right, I REALLY zipped up my credit cards getting a few "toys" I had wanted since my childhood!
Be a shame to have to pay them off!
It's a well know fact here in N.E.Pa. that if a historic event is happening, it's cloudy, rainy, freezing, (although I did see the space shuttle fly by one cold night) and we're left out to watch it on CNN!
I ALWYAS wanted to own a sextant, but being a lake sailor I just couldn't justify buying one, (heck maybe 12/22 I WILL! Kinda like "looka at me Ma, I survived the 12/21" scare)!
Like the slide rule in my desk, sextants along with black-n-white TVs, points and condensers for a engine's igniton are relagated to the museums and attics!
