Back Stay Whip?

The device to Pull the back stay away from the full roach main... Has any one installed one? Does any one know the width of the Mast Head crane so I can determine the width of the batten. I beleive what one needs to do is take a Batten about 2 feet long and screw it into tapped holes in the mast head and at the end of the Batten take a ring and insert in through both the Back Stay and the batten...

Would love all comments and advice...
Thanks!

I built the one on my S2 with a long batten, 2 bolts through the crane, and a couple micro blocks... works great.

I used amsteel blue for the actual backstay...
Then I setup a cascaded adjustment, run to both sides of the cockpit.

Turned out well

Biggest mistake I made was the batten was only 30 inches, I should have gone to maybe a 40 inch batten. But that is only because the roach on my main is much bigger than I thought (got the main after the backstay install)... easy enough to add a larger batten this year :)

Yeah I figure I can build one my self as well, especially with what the suppliers want for one.

What size batten did you use, length and width? How did you attach it to the Mast? The picture above shows a bracket set, I was thinking of simply using screws tapped into the mast head...

Appreciate your insights!

drilled through top to bottom of the masthead crane... bolted through it..
used a 1"x36" batten... should have used a 1"x48" would have been better, might be OK with 36" on the Capri 22.

I used Harken micro blocks, and amsteel blue 3/16" and thimble to match the line... a lot of the hardware was already there for bringing the line back.
