Peggie,,, I just looked in the archives found some results but not for my unit. this weekend I went to the boat...it is in the water..and started my comissioning process....I opened the secock for the head and made sure my vented loop was clean and open went to flush the head...had water come in but when I went to pump I had back pressure....couldnt pump....I have yet to check the vent outside the boat....I would assume it is that...is there another source for the back pressure.....??? thanks Rob

Could be a blocked tank vent OR...

a clogged or failed air valve in the toilet. The symptoms are identical, so I suggest you eliminate a tank vent blockage first. The air valve on a PH II is the little flat square doodad with a hole it on the front the wet/dry valve housing that looks like it's molded into the housing, but actually threads in. Remove it and check for a blockage in the hole in the housing...try pumping the toilet. If the problem is a dirty or failed air valve, the toilet will flush ok again, but water will squirt out the hole. Try cleaning the air valve...put it back. If that doesn't fix it, you'll have to order a new one (price: $25!) from Raritan. If that does fix it, remove it again and wrap the threads in teflon tape before putting it back...it's likely to leak if you don't.

Had the same problem just yesterday

Rob, I got a lot of good advice from all the folks out there. The most predominant was vent blockage. However my problem with the same symptons you have described led to a clogged joker valve. Once you have checked that the vent is not clogged it is a lot easier to check the joker valve than to disassemble vent lines from your holding tank.Good Luck
