What did you learn from your experience?
I assume you mean from the surgery?
1. The older you get, the longer and more painful the healing process. (Had the same surgery to the right shoulder about 12 years ago.)
2. Go to a doctor you know and trust. This guy was a high school friend, one of the Saints' physicians, and well respected in the community. I trust him with my life (done so twice).
3. Go to a good physical therapist. The first go-round, I had good therapy team. This go round, the group I go to are great. It's going to be painful, but they really do make it fun. They all have a great sense of humor.
4. You've got to do your home exercises.
5. Having a great and understanding boss is worth a billion bucks.
6. Health insurers are in business to try as hard as possible not to pay claims.
7. One of my greatest pleasures is fishing on my boat with my son (almost 10). Been doing that since my son was 2. Wish my Dad were still around to come along with us.
8. One of my other greatest pleasures is sailing with my wife, my son, or my wife and son.
I've now had surgery to my right knee, right and left shoulders, and various other mishaps/stupid things done/things that I probably wouldn't do now, but I wouldn't change a thing. I learned form all of it, and that;s what made me what I am today. I plan on going to heaven or hell with the scars of a life well-lived.
