Finallfy got out for a sail two weeks ago. Coming back in through a crowd of racers the furler line jammed in the spool. I was solo sailing and could not straighten it out during a couple of brief forays to the bow. Motor sailed to my mooring picking it up on the 3rd attempt. Cut the damned line to avoid trashing the sail and ordered new.

Hopped on a plane to FL to take care of my Mother a week ago and been here ever since. My Sister took over today and I am flying back tomorrow. Hopefully my new furler line will be in a box at home awaiting me to strip out a little core and bring it out to the boat. If I can't find the time to sail next week things are really going to get ugly! :cussing:

The roof got finished in my absence, so barring some painting the home project of the decade is finally done! :D

It's a struggle isn't it? I'm just happy to get on the boat as respite, because if I was counting on actually sailing I would be disappointed due to the August slack muggy days. this weekend I'll probably just do overnights on the mooring and come back to the shop to work during the hot, wake-choppy afternoons. The stars were brilliant last night and the light foggy morning was gorgeous. It's an hour drive, but way worth it.

Sure is. I am having lunch, a meeting with my Boss and then hopefully going to the boat to at least mess around with replacing the furling line. If there is no wind I'll find something else to fix, no doubt. I am going to try to spend a night a week aboard during the rest of the season, even if just on the mooring just for the simple pleasure of it.

Sailing last night

Got aboard last night. Replaced the furling line and changed the jib sheets, which were ridiculously thick (3.4?) to a 7/16 Samson XLS-T (same as their XLS-Extra, but in white) more suitable. Per their selection guide 7/16 is suitable for use as a sheet for up to a 35 footer.

As usual, things took longer than expected, so the sun was well on its way down by the time I finished. I was determined to sail, no matter how briefly, so with the motor running I raised the main and then dropped the mooring. Not much wind, but enough to chug around the harbor and back for about an hour and a half before dropping sail and motoring back in so I could pick up the mooring with some light to see by. :)

Your welcome. Fortunately, at this point I am still very much in the honeymoon stage with my boat. It is a twenty year long dream come true and I plan to keep it for a long time. Therefore I am just viewing this as progress towards getting all her repairs up to date. Unfortunately I am, and always will, be learning about sailing...which means I break things.

However, in this case cutting the line was clearly the lesser of two evils. I had a jib damaged a few years ago...cost me $300 to fix...a new furling line was $40...so I'll chalk it up to experience and be happy about the cost. It is rare that I screw up anything "marine" that costs less than $100! :D
