Good Morning Peggy, This weekend we developed a problem with our Raritain phII As we flush, using the dry selector we pump the handle and the bowl empties... but if you come back a few minuites latter the bowl is full again. This is not new sea water, this seams to be back flow from the tank,,,, as I began to watch I even see broken up toilet paper. I have checked my vent and it seams clear, the holding tank is empty. almost..... is it time for a rebuild of the head?..is there a check vale in the head that may be replaced? ..I havent rebuilt it as yet, the head is amost 18 yo. as Im sure its due. I am the third owner of this boat.so maybe they did it. The only thing that has been touched around the head before this happened is I replaced a bent hose on the overboard discharge. All hoses are new 2 years ago. Looking forward to your insite. Thanks Rob

Check your tank vent again...

'Cuz your symptoms have to be caused by a pressurized tank that's creating so much backpressure that waste can't get into the tank. The two most likely places for a vent blockage are the vent thru-hull and the connection on the tank--both the fitting and that end of the hose. Open the deck pumpout cap to relieve any pressure before removing the vent line from the tank. Or you have a kinked or clogged head discharge hose. Whichever it is, it's creating backpressure that's not allowing waste to get into the tank...it's pushing waste back into the toilet. However, while I don't think the toilet is your culprit, it's LONG past time to put a rebuild kit in the toilet. Before you buy a rebuild kit, you need to know which is the right one...'cuz there are two versions of the PHII marine toilet--those manufactured before June of 1992 and those manufactured after June, 1992. Each has its own unique repair kit. The earlier version, manufactured between August,1981 and June, 1992 uses repair kit # PHRKII. The PHII toilets manufactured after June, 1992 use repair kit PHRKIIC. The two versions of the PH II have some interchangeable parts, but a bunch that aren't.
